Park in the BLUE parking garage. Take garage elevator to the LOBBY, and then the Hospital's elevators to the 2nd floor.
Arriving at the Surgery Center
Located on the 2nd floor of 1625 N. George Mason Drive. Sign-in on the clip board in the reception area. Shortly thereafter, a nurse will escort you back to your all-private preoperative room.
Surgery Center
Your surgical preparation begins. You will change into a gown and a nurse will confirm your medical history and surgical procedure. After this, your family, friend or loved one will be invited back to join you.
Surgical Preparation in Radiology
If your surgeon has ordered a preoperative diagnostic procedure, you will be transported to Radiology or Nuclear Medicine. These procedures are not for all patients. After, you will be transported back to your room in the Surgery Center.
Surgical preparation in Nuclear Medicine
If your surgeon has ordered a preoperative sentinel node procedure, you will be transported to Nuclear Medicine. This procedure is not for all patients. After, you will be transported back to your room in the Surgery Center.
Pre-Surgical Communication
Before surgery, you will meet with your anesthesiologist and surgeon(s). After, you will be transported to the operating room for surgery.
Operating Room (OR)
A dedicated breast care OR team will provide highly specialized care.
Tracking Your Location During Surgery
The Smart Track Monitor in the Surgery Center reception area allows your family, friends or loved ones to know where you are throughout your surgical journey by an assigned identification number.
Post-Surgical Care
After surgery, some patients will be transported to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) for careful monitoring during recovery, and others are transported directly back to the Surgery Center. Time spent in these areas can vary for each patient.
After PACU or Surgery Center
After the PACU, some patients will be transported back to the Surgery Center and then discharged. Other patients will be admitted to an all-private patient room in the Hospital (as seen in this photo). Your surgeon determines if you stay overnight.
Post-Surgical Communication
Following surgery, the surgeon will meet your family, friends or loved ones in the Surgery Center reception area to update them about your surgery and status.
